This is a slight unmeritable man, meet to be sent on errands: and, though others lay these honors on this man, to ease themselves of divers slanderous loads, he shall but bear them as the ass bears gold, to groan and sweat under the business, either led or driven, as they point the way; and having brought their treasure where they will, then take they down his load and turn him off, like to the empty ass, to shake his ears and graze in commons.
LoveDemBuds on February 17th, 2010 1:50 pm
He mentions that those kids came from nothing and now are becoming doctors or going to college. Thats exactly why they succeeded. They were given something to work for. The problem with america today is people aren’t motivated to succeed. These people that he mentioned lived their lives with nothing and made the choice to work hard to make a better life for themselves. Thats what i feel needs to be instilled into the students of tomorrow, give them something to work toward.
zfreak33 on February 17th, 2010 1:51 pm
there was nothing wrong with that speech. Everyone who told me it was just indoctrination hadn’t even seen it. No wonder.
scars4life7693 on February 17th, 2010 2:50 pm
ahhh man, i hope that one of these days whenever i watch tv i dont see so many colored people.
pickleevans on February 17th, 2010 2:53 pm
But yet he used Michael Jordan as an example in his speech, he didn’t make the team the first time, but was persistent and went on to become a legend. I realize chances are high, but it doesn’t mean your dreams should be cut down by the president.
If you don’t finish high school that’s your choice. You don’t fail your country, you just make less money, it’s your own fault. I believe people are crazy for dropping out, but this country isn’t communist and shouldn’t try to make decisions for you.
FlamingHomelessDude on February 17th, 2010 3:31 pm
its never wrong to tell the truth, its never wrong to inspire, and it is never wrong to dream,,,,,,,thats the simple answer to all these comments.
CPcoasterguy94 on February 17th, 2010 3:57 pm
Does anyone else hate being called a racist when you disagree with Obama?
FlammingGuitarDudes on February 17th, 2010 4:20 pm
i honestly dont see what is wrong with this speech. Kids need to hear it strait up, that without school, you will not make it in the world. Simple as that. The people that are upset about this A) just cant handle the truth…. or B) are just racist. It takes more then knowing basic math skills and more then knowing the parts of a cell to make it in the world. If anything, this is what they need to hear. It’s called the truth for a reason, and it hurts, but its the truth, so deal with it.
dimension992 on February 17th, 2010 4:36 pm
So now it’s bad to force inspiration? So you just let kids run wild and not let them hear what SHOULD be done? No, you sit a child down and tell them straight up what life is about, and the real world. You save them time and trouble by inspiring them early, you my friend are ignorant. If you don’t inspire kids at an early age, you’ve already failed.
96batman96 on February 17th, 2010 5:12 pm
yes, now listen im not disagreeing with you, yes, barley anyone makes any sort of fame, but then again, somone has to fill in the roster on a basketball team or sombody has to make music, but you, rember the name jack and my number is 35, im going to the NHL nobody will tell me wrong
Damnhackerzz on February 17th, 2010 5:14 pm
Wait, what?
You’re pissed at him for being realistic?
Do you know how high the chance of becoming a basketball star or rapper is? It’s REALLY fucking high. The vast, VAST majority of Americans never make any sort of fame.
And if you don’t finish school, you are pretty much failing your country. The average income of someone who doesn’t finish school is around $20,000.
The average income of someone who finishes college is around $70,000-80,000.
Custodian or lawmaker? Hmm…
Meralzhe on February 17th, 2010 5:45 pm
What ” Never force inspiration.” You obviously haven’t been forced to do anything you haven’t wanted to do man. Unfortunately even the stupidest statements that are true have conquences to acting on them! I know it may sound stupid and all but seriously YOU DO NOT force people to contribute simply because you think they should…. It’s good and all but it also gives you the option of receiving the glory for that contribution which is in itself very wrong. Truth is oftentime very weird like this
DopeBoiSS on February 17th, 2010 5:54 pm
obama is great.
swtbloomy on February 17th, 2010 6:38 pm
“Never force inspiration” is the most idiotic statement i’ve ever heard! and what the hell is “forcing a flower to look nice” thing all about? You’re ridiculous.
Meralzhe on February 17th, 2010 7:10 pm
Lol that’s badness dude the logic in that ( Not you personally.) the kids listen to a speech about working hard on school to avoid working on school! That’s pretty hilarious
And I bet most of the highschoolers actually did that. I guess that could be strategetically bad but the speech itself had almost no flaws. If it inspires good that’s great but I didn’t like the timing of it or that it was a Country serving the President thing… Now if schools taught about the flaws of socialism……..
nka203 on February 17th, 2010 8:02 pm
i guess, but if you went to high school im pretty sure the kids are glad to be out of class for 20 minutes and listen to the president
Meralzhe on February 17th, 2010 8:22 pm
Ahh so it’s a forcing the kids to hear thing? I mean if it was done to help the schools then why not televise it for people who want to hear it to hear it? It’s inspirational but forcing people to be inspired is like forcing a flower to look nice… Inspiration is choice and if you listened to the speech without the desire to be inspired then it won’t inspire you. Never force inspiration
nka203 on February 17th, 2010 9:08 pm
cuz kids never watch the news at home…
Meralzhe on February 17th, 2010 9:55 pm
Simple question: Why did he do this DURING school hours? Was there a point to it? He’s supposed to serve America not the other way around
thesepipesRclean on February 17th, 2010 10:37 pm
Obama is such a great speaker . Even if you don’t like his politics , it could only do your child good to listen to him speak . George W Bush and his limited vocabulary didn’t teach the kids anything . At the very least children’s oratory skills could be improved by watching Obama .
s0larb01 on February 17th, 2010 11:35 pm
lol at that girl’s expression at 5:14
pickleevans on February 17th, 2010 11:49 pm
u don’t finish school u fail your country? that’s a load of crap. way to put even more of a burden on students of america. we can do anything if we put our mind to it, but we can’t become basketball stars or rappers cuz chances are we won’t make it – he’s full of crap. He just wants us to graduate and get good jobs so he doesn’t look as bad when he runs the country into the ground, also he wants us to keep investing in social security so he can get paid
TwilightDarkAngelX on February 18th, 2010 12:45 am
