US President Barack Obama failed to follow up on his election promise to recognize the genocide of 1.5 million Christian Armenians by Muslim Turkey during 1915-1923. Along with Armenians, other Christian groups were killed as well by the Turks, The Greeks and the Assyrians. A number of states have recognized the killings in Armenia as the first genocide of the 20th century, including Russia, France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Greece, as well as 42 of the 50 US states. The Vatican, the European Parliament and the World Council of Churches have also denounced the killings as genocide. Uruguay was the first to do so in 1965. An estimated 3000 Kurdish villages in Turkey were virtually wiped from the map, representing the displacement of more than 378000 people. same thing with the assyrian community…in chicago( obamas hometown) alone there almost 400,000 assyrians living there ..we 2 hav asked the same question…i guess words are just words when there was only 1 million assyrians in the world at the time (1915) and turkey along with help from the KURDS (wich turkey turned on later) were able to assimilate almost 800,000….thats 80% of a nation in whole…in this day and age its truely a sad world…
