Palin wants Alaska natural resources developed in part to take the pressure off the USA economy and relieve the blackmailing influence of Middle East oil. Obviously Alaska has more oil under the ground than has already been extracted. Your headline and the comments that responded to your headline insinuate that oil companies are holding back reserves that could help the USA economy. The present pipes and ships can handle just so much. That’s why Palin wants the expansion.
