President Barack Obama continued the tradition of Speaking at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner on May 9, 2009. This was his first time appearing at this yearly event as President of the United States. In the past, Presidents have shown their humorous and mostly self deprecating side when speaking at the Correspondent’s Dinner, treating it as a roast on themselves as well as members of their Administration and the Press. This year was Obama’s turn to show that he could make fun of himself as well as those that report on him, work with him, surround him, praise him and cover him. I think that he managed to show that he does NOT have a funny bone in his body. Not only did he more likely than not, not write this speech himself which was bad enough, but his delivery was horrible. With the exception of one or two lines, it was almost painful to watch. The audience wasn’t too into it either, but then again since they don’t make fun of him either it must have been difficult for them to laugh which made it seem even worse. Of course the President wasn’t the only one that bombed the night away…..the entire event was pretty much the most UNFUNNY I have ever seen and I have watched just about all if not all of them. Wanda Sykes was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE and quite mean and nasty during her stand ups. It is one thing to parody or find humor in political situations, but it is definitely another to be not just disrespectful but flat out disgusting.
